STEM-XR for Equity

XR demo

🌟 Project Overview

The STEM-XR4E project aims to support teachers in delivering low-cost, hands-on physics learning experiences by leveraging everyday physical materials enhanced with emerging technologies. Integrating exploratory inquiry, extended/mixed reality (XR), multimodal sensing, and generative AI, the project enables students to engage in authentic scientific practices. By using accessible tools and real-world setups, students can visualize and experiment with core physics concepts—such as force, motion, and angles—in an interactive and immersive way, fostering deeper conceptual understanding and active learning.

🛠️ Key Responsibilities • Develop design ideas for several different common STEM topics in High Schools (from Common Core Standards) that would benefit from an XR experience • Work with teachers to refine ideas • Create design ideas for AI-based XR simulations to address some of these topics

🚀 Research Impact

STEM-XR4E advances the field of technology-enhanced STEM education by demonstrating how low-cost, embodied, and immersive experiences can democratize access to high-quality STEM learning. It bridges classroom practice and cutting-edge tools—such as XR, generative AI, and multimodal sensing—to support inquiry-based, data-informed teaching
